Northern Education Trust Kearsley Academy celebrates GCSE results
Students at Northern Education Trust Kearsley Academy have celebrated a record-breaking year for their GCSE results, dramatically outperforming national averages. The standout achievement was in the core subjects of English and maths, where 58% of students secured a strong pass (grade 5 or above) in both, an impressive 12% above the national average. Furthermore, 73% achieved a standard pass (grade 4 or above) in both subjects, an impressive 6% above the national averages. Adding to this success, the academy's English results saw exceptional performance, with a remarkable 55% of all students earning a high grade of 7 or above.
BBC Radio were on hand at results day and some of our wonderful students opened their results live on air, including Lucas who achieved a Grade 9 in English, Grade 8 in maths and Grades 9 and 8 in science along with a Distinction* in sport and Distinction in hospitality and catering, along with other outstanding results.
Ryan Baxter, Principal of Kearsley Academy, thanked the students and staff for their efforts and commitment stating: “This is an excellent set of results for Kearsley Academy. The students have worked extremely hard to achieve at these levels, with some students having overcome difficult barriers to do so. I’d like to thank the staff for their continued passion for ensuring our students succeed – these results are testament to their efforts, energy and enthusiasm for helping our students achieve the very best from their education. The amount of young people achieving grade 5 or higher in both English and maths has improved each year and again this year, this year’s English and maths 5 + is currently 12% above last year’s national average for that measure.”
Andrew Newton, Executive Principal, added his praise, saying: “We’re delighted by these results, which are testimony to the vision of the trust to enhance the life chances of the young people in our care. My thanks and congratulations go to all students and staff for their incredible efforts. My thanks also go to the parents, carers, governors and the trust board for their continued support – our students and staff couldn’t succeed without your help.”
Jane Wilson, Chief Executive of Northern Education Trust, said: “These results reflect the hard work and commitment of the staff and students within the academy. The year-on-year improvement demonstrates the ongoing quality of education provided by the academy, and the exceptional desire of the students to succeed. We aim to enhance the life chances of the children and young people in our care, and these results are the culmination of their incredible efforts and dedication, allowing them to progress to the next stage of their lives with confidence in their abilities to succeed. We are extremely proud of our students and wish them every success with their futures.”
